Jewellry tops online product sales
The Indian e-commerce sector is getting a good response from rural and Tier-III cities, Sharat Digumarti, head (operations), eBay India said at the launch of the eBay India census 2010 at Hyderabad.
"Jewellry is the largest selling product online and every four minutes a jewellry piece is sold in India. The purchasing trend is different according to geographical areas. Consumers in rural towns prefer to purchase dress materials, while the Tier-II and Tier-III consumers prefer to buy Sarees, whereas in metros, it’s designer wear,” he said.
In India, eBay India has over 2.5 million registered users and over 3,296 eCommerce hubs across 2,471 cities. It operates in 28 countries and seven Union territories. The company has started its India operation in 1995 and currently has six lakh listings under 2,000 categories for the Indian consumers.
The overall Indian eCommerce market in 2007 the last time they had published, it was Rs 9,200 crore and it was projected a 30 per cent year-on-year growth.
